Many thanks to Supermom Anneli for challenging me to write about Spidermoms.
It was a joke at the time and I took it as such…
But suddenly it started to feel like a good idea, as I recalled a recent TV show my 7-year old son asked me to watch with him. The show was about an unusual Frenchman who travels around the world in order to climb to the top of the highest buildings - just to feel, in his own words, that he is fully alive.
My son was very excited. I couldn’t share that feeling, because first of all I thought this is bad influence on him and he’ll do something insane after the Frenchman who dresses like Spiderman when climbing.
Regardless of my resistant thoughts I decided to share the TV show with my son, as it seemed to be so important to him.
To my amazement, my son read my mind and said to me: “Mom, I know it’s dangerous what he does. I’m not going to do it.”
“Okay”, I thought. Let’s see what happens…
The spiderguy named Alain Robert is exceptionally brave as he accomplishes his dreams. What drives him to do these insane stunts is that he wants to say “I’ve lived my life” at the end of his life. When he is climbing these massive structures… that’s when he feels most alive.
Not all of us are created to climb the highest buildings in the world, but what he does serves as encouragement to us all to fulfill our dreams. This man accomplishes his dreams while knowing that the tiniest mistake could be fatal for him. We can do the same, only a little safer.
So, I didn’t need to worry that my son would copy this real-life spiderman and climb, even if it’s to the top of the warehouse. But I’m happy he can admire brave people who invite us to do courageous things. Excellent reminder to me as well!
For me, the most superhero-like action is to stop doing my things for a short while and share a moment with my dearest ones get them to feel they are so important to me and their interests are as important to me.
Those shared moments are much more valuable than we could possibly think. What are the most precious memories with your parents or grandparents? It’s amazing how they tend to be very ordinary things they shared with you.
That’s THE Superhero Challenge for most of us and I’m happy that one single mistake isn’t as fatal for us as it is for the French Spiderman.
I wish you many many superhero achievements with your little heroes!
